Muranga Senator and his Uasin Gishu counterpart Professor Margret Kamar have been appointed as the temporary Speakers in the Senate.

While making the announcement, Senate Deputy Speaker Kindiki Kithure said the move was made to ensure there is no vacuum in the house in case of the absence of the Speaker and his deputy.

"Senators Irungu Kangata and Professor Kamar will be acting as the speaker of the house, when the house leadership is not in the until there is a Speaker's panel," the Tharaka Nithi senator said.

The Deputy Speaker and the Assistant Speaker are elected on the first sitting day of each Parliament, or whenever the Office becomes vacant.

However, when the SPeaker is way, his deputy acts both in the Chair and also in the Speaker's capacity when the House is not sitting.

In the absence of the Speaker from the State, the Deputy Speaker performs the duties of the Speaker and is vested with all the power, authority, duties and functions of the Speaker.

At the beginning of each Parliament, the Speaker nominates not more than five Members who will be Temporary Speakers. They relieve the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and the Assistant Speaker on a temporary basis whenever requested.

In the current house, former Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka is the Speaker with Kindiki as his deputy.
