Kisiang'ani insisted that Kanu's move was a result of reacting to the rise of Ruto as a dominant figure in the Rift Valley politics that could derail the presidential ambitions of the son to the former President Moi, Gideon Moi.

"This is about the destruction of William Ruto. William Ruto has been trying to outdo the dominance of the Moi family in the Rift Valley and that has not gone well for former president Moi," he said.

"The idea of Kanu joining Jubilee is to weaken Ruto so that he is not realistically at the top of things in 2022. It has nothing completely to do with the 2022 elections," he added.

His view were also shared by political analyst Harman Manyora who noted that the deal between Jubilee and Kanu was done with a view of 2022.

"I think Kanu made the deal with Jubilee because they will get something in return, most likely for 2022," said the university don.

The two were speaking during a live interview with Citizen TV on Thursday.
