Former Kasarani MP and cabinet minister Lawrence Munyua Waiyaki is dead.

Waiyaki died Tuesday morning at 91 while undergoing treatment at Nairobi's Aga Khan Hospital.

According to the Star, it is not yet known what illness he succumbed to.

He served as a cabinet minister for Foreign Affairs and Agriculture in Jomo Kenyatta's government.

He attended Alliance High School and was introduced to Jomo Kenyatta and Mbiyu Koinange by his father, where after he was hired to serve as a government doctor.

He also served as the district chairman for the Kenya African National Union in the period between 1960 and 1968.

Waiyaki was elected as the first North Eastern Nairobi (now Kasarani) constituency MP in his maiden attempt in May 1963.

He was later appointed PS in the Ministry of Health and then in the Ministry of Housing.
