The Government of Kenya has managed make SH25 billion from mining in 2017 according to Mining Cabinet Secretary Dan Kazungu.

However, Kazungu says the amount is exclusive of construction related minerals which is now classified as minerals under the new law.

On Friday the CS spoke at the opening of the second edition of the annual premium Kenya Mining Forum and stated that the country has greatly improved in the sector through the implementation of new reforms such as the operationalization of online mining comprehensive register.

He went on to acknowledge the reforms made which called for the transparency in online application of mining licenses and enactment of the Mining Act 2016.

 “The hosting of the Kenya Mining Forum will afford the country a great opportunity to showcase its mineral wealth and encourage mineral rich communities to embrace mining as an economic activity that can transform the well-being of Kenyans and contribute to the national economic growth,” said Kazungu.

The CS has told youth to take time out of their busy schedules and attend the forum to gain some insight into the benefits the sector has to offer.
