KUPPET chairman Kisii County Osoro Okondo,  has decried a set of new rules that demand that all non teaching activities in schools be done during weekends.

Teacher employer TSC last week released a circular that according to Okondo were draconian and could not be implemented in schools.

Okondo said that KUPPET was planning to move to court over the matter and force TSC to stop them as he asked teachers to ignore the directive.

"During weekends we give the students right to practice their Religion right such a directive will affect this," he said adding that some activities like Drama took more than two days.

He also said that if TSC was planning to minimize absenteeism in schools,  the best way was by involving school heads directly.

"This law that a teacher must seek permission from the County director of education is not practical at all.  Even school heads can be strict on teachers not to allow absenteeism, " he said.

In the new law,  teachers are required to seek permission from school heads who will in turn seek permission from the county education directors for a teacher to be absent.
