The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) secretary general Seth Panyako has been asked to step aside and shift focus on his Kakamega county Senatorial bid.

Panyako is vying for the seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

According to KNUN national Chairman John Bii, Panyako no longer has the interest of nurses at heart.

Addressing the press at the Uasin Gishu District Hospital grounds in Eldoret, Friday, Bii insisted that the ongoing nurses strike was illegal and only meant to help Panyako raise his political profile.

"This strike is a political stand and this is why I want to ask Panyako to take a break from Union leadership and leave nurses at peace," noted Bii.

He further asked the government to take stern action against the KNUN secretary general for sanctioning an illegal strike that has resulted into deaths and sufferings of innocent Kenyans.

"Counties should do a mortality count so that Panyako can be asked to account for the lost lives," Bii said.

The two are leading different factions of nurses Union leadership, one aligned to Panyako that supports the strike, and the other led by Bii that has termed the strike as illegal.
