Kisumu’s Kodiaga maximum prison has been put on notice following cases of suspected cholera.

According to reports, three people, including an inmate died from cholera last week.

Several other inmates were also hospitalized with diarrhea and vomiting. The symptoms are associated with Cholera.

Kisumu county Health officer Lusi Ojwang said the prison management should stop using raw water drawn from a nearby river.

'We want the facility to comply with our health requirements and ensure they use treated water from KIWASCO, which is outside the gate and the only thing needed is the connection to the prison," he said on Monday.

"It's time they changed from harvesting water from the river, which poses high chances of cholera outbreak," Ojwang said.
