An 80-year-old woman escaped death by a whisker after she was cornered by a hungry hyena.

The woman, identified as Dorothy Wangecii, from Karaba village in Laikipia was in her farm when the dangerous animal waylaid her.

Speaking from her hospital bed, the woman said the animal roughed her up and ate her fingers.

She lost three fingers in the scuffle.

“I was returning to my house when the hyena attacked me,” she said.

“It bit my hands and started pulling me. I raised an alarm and neighbours came to my rescue and brought me to hospital,” she added.Neighbours came to her rescue and rushed her to a Nyahururu hospital.

Irate neighbours killed the animal and set it ablaze.
