John Gitonga was marrying Susan Achieng and Wesley Cheruiyot marrying Elizabeth Moraa.

Officiating the ceremony was Mary Wangechi who is also deaf and she informed the congregation that no one is limited to the enjoyment that is found when one marries. Due to their incapability to speak, Wangechi together with the brides and bridegrooms used sign language which was interpreted to those attending the ceremony.

A light moment was when the pastor asked them how they both dated and yet they could not be able to talk. Responding to his question, Gitonga said that the simple and effective method was to use SMS since both have reading and writing capabilities. He also mentioned that they used to go for outing and perform activities like swimming which they both like.

"Being deaf does not mean I cannot be a wife and a mother. It is just a physical state and I am proud I have a partner who is like me," said Moraa.

Speaking to relatives of the families, they both expressed happy faces for the unbelievable act of courage of their families.

The weddings could not be performed on a greater scale due to the incapability of communication but it was held during church service which took 30 mins and then normal church program resumed.

One of the church members who gave the vote of thanks said that persons with disability should not be neglected as disability is not in ability.

At Hivisasa we wish both newlyweds the best as they begin their families.
