The child was in company of three other children and they were coming from church when the incident happened.

According to an eyewitness, the donkey was coming from the opposite direction where the children were heading. The beast of burden was running and braying loudly.

When the children saw it, they turned back to run for their safety but the donkey was after them them.

Unfortunately, Joseph Nderi who was not as fast as others, was  bulldozed down by the animal which bit his collarbone and broke it.

Samuel Kingi who came to rescue the boy was in turn chased few meters by the donkey but it returned back to the boy and bit him again at the neck holding him for a moment on its mouth.

Kingi says that later the villagers rescued the boy who was rushed to Tigoni general hospital with neck injuries but he died before arrival.

Area Chief James Matare controlled angry residents who wanted to kill the donkey but he called Limuru donkey rescue center workers who arrived and took the animal for a medical checkup.

Local administrators who were at the scene urged members of the public to be extremely careful with the donkeys in the area saying there may be a donkey disease which may have affected the otherwise 'peaceful' animals.
