Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu alias Baba Yao has promised to compensate the victims of Madaraka Market fire that razed market goods worth millions of shillings November 2015.Speaking to the traders on Tuesday during a campaign roadshow for the reelection of President Uhuru Kenyatta in Makongeni, Thika, Waititu said that his government will see to it that the traders who were affected got back on their feet again within the shortest time possible.Babayao also said that the market will be upgraded set out plans into modern standards to ensure so that it can accommodate every one of them and more other people.“We are going to collect and keep a record of all those trading in this market and give you soko IDs for easier identification so that none of you is left out during the allocation of spaces in the new market,” said the governor.The governor added that the market will be done in various phases to minimise interruptions of the day-to-day running of the market.Other things that Waititu promised include building enough toilets, improve garbage collection and improve on security lighting. Baba Yao reiterated his earlier promise that salons, kinyozis and mama mbogas will not be required to pay for any business permit in order to continue operating.
