Tanzanian President John Magufuli has imposed a ban on pregnant school going students claiming that they are a ‘bad’ influence to their counterparts.

He however gave them a reprieve saying that his government will be confortable to support them in other activities other than paying for their education in primary and secondary schools.

“I want to make it clear that the government cannot continue paying for children who get pregnant in schools. We cannot pay for parents because at that time, they go to another level,” he said.

The tough talking president on Thursday further said: “There are other lots of activities like going to village polytechnics to pursue technical courses which we have no issues with it.”

The CCM president said students were free to sire once in university and not in primary and secondary schools adding that the vice was affecting education system of the country.

Viewed as revolutionary, Maghufuli has however attracted criticism from certain quarters where he is accused of being dictatorial.

On fighting corruption, the first term president has sacked a host of government officers whom he likes with embezzlement of public funds.
