A convict who stabbed a magistrate in Nakuru got a reprieve Tuesday after his attempted murder charges were reduced to assault by the prosecution.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Josephat Burudi, convict Michael Kuhora gave a sigh of relief after the prosecution made the amendments from attempted murder to assault.

Kuhora now faces charges of assaulting Resident Magistrate Eunice Kelly at Nakuru Law Courts on November 22, 2016 using a screw driver.

He is alleged to have committed offence after the victim magistrate handed him a three-year sentence for assaulting one Ms Edith Adhiambo.

According to police reports, Kuhora pounced on the first complainant, Ms Adhiambo, and stabbed her several times with the screw driver before he proceeded to attack the magistrate.

He however denied the assault charges read to him and is in remand at the Nakuru GK Prison after court denied him bond.

Chief magistrate Burudi dismissed the bond application saying that it was inconsequential since he was still serving a three-year jail term given to him by the first magistrate he stabbed.

His case will be heard next on May 22
