IEBC has been barred from interfering with votes registered in Mandera County, after county leaders led by Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow sued IEBC in court over their move to reverse the votes transfer.

Justice George Odunga on Tuesday ruled that IEBC should not reverse the votes that were transferred to Ashabito and Rhamu wards in Mandera North, pending hearing and determination of the suit.

The leaders through their lawyer Tom Ojienda, argued that they are apprehensive that since the region is prone to deadly clan skirmishes, the decision by the IEBC might lead to inter-clan clashes.

Kerrow and co-applicants Hassan Noor, Hassan Aden and Hussein Sheikh told the Star the move by the IEBC to reverse the transfer of votes in the two wards is a recipe for chaos.

“This will lead to loss of lives and destruction of property,” Kerrow said as quoted by Star.

The senator noted that voters from various stations transferred their votes on their own volition and in doing so, they followed standard procedures.

According to the leaders, IEBC violated the Constitution by failing to give them the right to be heard before arriving at the decision.
