The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has summoned Marsabit Governor, Ukur Yattani Kanacho and his closest rival, Mohamed Mohamud Ali, the Frontier Alliance party leader. This follows violence that erupted in Marsabit town, during President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party campaign tour in the region Wednesday.Supporters of Yattani, who is seeking re-election on a Jubilee Party ticket clashed with those in support of Mohamud Ali, who is vying for the governor's post, on a Frontier Alliance party, which he is the leader. The party supports President Kenyatta's re-election bid, hence the violence, that saw several people sustain injuries.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said the two breached the electoral Code of Conduct and should appear before the Enforcement Committee at 8.00 a.m tomorrow, without fail."The Commission hereby summons Hon. Ukur Yatan Kanacho of Frontier Alliance and Mohamed Mohamud Ali of Jubilee Party to appear before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)’s Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee on Friday 28th July 2017 at 8.00 a.m. at Anniversary Towers, Commission Boardroom, 6th floor without fail," Chebukati said Thursday July 27.Meanwhile, Chebukati will address the nation the same Friday, morning from the national tallying centre, at the Bomas of Kenya, on matters of election. On matters presidential results, IEBC said: "We will do all we can to have results come fast, but we have not promised 'within hours'. Even with technology, a careful count, tally and transmission takes time. Relatively fewer votes get counted sooner. The law gives a maximum of 7 days."
