Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i  has announced that the free secondary school education will commence next year January.

Speaking during the release of KCPE results, the CS stated that the government had put in place all the becessary measures for the progrmma.

He said no child will be required to pay any tuition fees in any public secondary school. Already the ministry has released circular outlining details of the planned programme, onto which the government has set aside Sh56 billion to actualise it.

“It is now clear that the Jubilee government is committed to ensure that every child gets access to education at all levels. We must not forget that the government now pays examination fees for candidates in all public and private primary and secondary schools,” the CS said. This must be seen as a big scale-up from the free day learning programme that has been running in all public secondary schools, he added.

Early this month, the government effectively scrapped the Sh9, 374 school fees which each student in public secondary schools has been paying per year, paving way for complete free day secondary education starting January 2018.
