[Photo: MoH]The Ministry of Health of the National government has launched a new framework for elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (eMTCT) and Syphilis.Kenya implemented the 1st eMTCT framework between 2012 to 2015, cutting the transmission of mother to child by half.Health Cabinet Secretary Dr Cleopa Mailu said the new eMTCT framework signified the government's and partners' commitment to end HIV and Syphilis in mothers and their children, besides reducing infant mortality.During the event held at the Safaricom Stadium Kasarani in Nairobi, Mailu disclosed that 2,000 deaths had been averted among mothers"This dropped maternal deaths from 6,000 to 4,000 annually, ever since the government introduced free maternity services in 2013," Mailu said, Tuesday.
