Mombasa Jubilee leaders have launched a new campaign strategy ahead of the October 17 presidential poll re-run as they seek to get 148,000 votes for President Uhuru and DP William Ruto.In the new plan, all the 30 Jubilee MCA candidates in last month’s elections will set up a team that will work with the six MP candidates and report to Tourism CS Najib Balala, the coordinator. In this case, those on the ground will be tasked with the organisation, while the top leaders like Balala and JP Mombasa point-man Suleiman Shahbal will oversee the progress and also provide financial assistance.Shahbal said they want to get 50 per cent more votes for UhuRuto than what the pair garnered in August 8 election. On Tuesday, Balala and Shahbal held a joint presser where they said they will work together to achieve this goal.On Monday, the duo held a meeting with all Jubilee MP candidates in the August 8 polls where they resolved to focus on the presidential election and not who’ll get what position.“Jubilee will emerge stronger from this election. Forget the sideshows and the boos. It's the votes that count. We want to increase the votes by a minimum of 50 per cent,” said Shahbal, as quoted by the Star.He added that all leaders will adopt a polling station, a move akin to the one employed by the National Super Alliance (NASA) in the August 8 elections.Balala at the same time defended his move to engage in Uhuru’s campaigns, stating that the constitution doesn’t stop him from doing so.“Nobody can stop me from getting votes for my president. I'm a CS delivering a political manifesto given to me,” said Balala.
