A mother and her teenage daughter who allegedly stole her employer’s firearm and other items valued at Sh645,000 have been arraigned before a Nairobi court and charged with stealing.

However, Dorcas Chepkemboi and her daughter who had pleaded guilty to the charges on Wednesday changed their plea and denied the charge before Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku on Thursday.

Police allege that on May 9 this year at Ridgeways Springs Muthaiga in Starehe Sub County, they jointly stole a Berretta pistol, 15 rounds of ammunition and a holster all valued at Sh155,000, three mobile phones all valued at Sh40,000 and Sh450,000 the property of Francis Mbugua.

Reports police allege that Chepkemboi’s daughter went to visit her at her employer’s residence in Muthaiga and later when Mbugua left the house and they were alone they decided to steal the items which included the firearm and ammunition and money that was in the house.

Mutuku in her ruling ordered them to pay a Sh 1 Million bond each without an alternative of cash bail and she further directed that the prosecution supplied them with copies of all witness statements that will be used in the hearing of the case.

The case will be mentioned in 14 days for pretrial and any other directions by the court.
