Media reports that Gusiiland will be a battleground have been dismissed by an ODM legislator saying the region is fully behind the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Speaking during Citizen's Cheche show on Wednesday, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma said they were ready to fix the problems that led to Jubilee getting parliamentary seats from the region in the 2013 election.

"I have seen and read the media reporting that Kisii is a battle ground for Jubilee and NASA, that is a far fetched imagination," he stated.

"Eighty percent of the voters for the presidency in the previous elections went to Raila Odinga. It is only in the MP positions that we went wrong, we fielded candidates in Ford Kenya, Wiper and ODM. They split votes and gave an advantage to Jubilee and that we must correct this time round," he added.

The MP has also called on the opposition to conduct joint nominations in regions with more that two strong candidates to avoid splitting votes against their opponents in the August 8 polls.

"My idea this time which I believe is shared by the NASA is that we hold joint nominations and come up with one strong candidate in places that we feel we have two or more strong candidates," he said.
