It is the first time in many years since the dam reduced to that level, a situation that will force the residents of Nairobi to dig deeper into their pockets to get water.

The water shortage that has worse hit Nairobi and other parts of the country has been attributed by the current dry spell and the short rains that fell below the expected level.

The government said they are planning to dig 40 bore holes in Nairobi in the next two weeks and equip them the same month to curb the situation which seem to be getting out of hand.

On Sunday, Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company had issues an alert about interrupting water supply to Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos in order to allow for maintenance.

According to the company, Ndakaini dam has only received 250mm of rain against the 1,000mm usually received at this time.
