Addressing media on Tuesday at Pondamali, the residents lamented that the contractor who was assigned the road construction messed up by interfering with the area drainage.

They said they lost their property after floods rocked the area.

“We have gone through a lot and lost our property in this. We are calling on the government to come in and assist us now and the contractor should be arrested,” a resident said.

Confirming the incident, Nakuru West Deputy County Commissioner Elmi Shafie stated that close to thirty families had been affected by the runoff water after a heavy downpour on Monday.

The DCC called on the residents to move to higher grounds.

“We are not surprised but we anticipated it since this area is lower and the rain water will always flow this way. But I would call on area residents to be vigilant,” he said.
