Governor Charity Ngilu has vowed to revive the once lucrative mango industry in Kitui County.

Ngilu says that her government is exploring various ways of promoting mango farming and local and foreign creating market for farmers.

Speaking when she met representatives of Mango farmers in her office on Wednesday, Ngilu said that she is in touch with local and foreign investors who are willing to boost the mango sector.

She observed that many mango farmers are not getting value for the product because of selfish and unscrupulous middle men.

She stated that mango farming is one of the key sectors of the county is banking on for economic development.

Governor Ngilu pledged to personally seek foreign market for mango farmers. She said that her administration will pump a huge chunk of its budget to revive collapsed industries.

Ngilu also observed that adequate funds have been set aside to establish modern mango processing factories.

“We have plans of setting up at least one mango processing plant in every sub county to ensure that our farmers get value for their product, “she said.

The governor urged residents to work with her promising to deliver on the pledges she made to them during the campaigns in the run up to the recently concluded August 8 general election
