Kitui governor hopeful Charity Ngilu has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to guarantee fair, transparent, peaceful, and credible August 8 polls.

The former Lands Cabinet Secretary (CS) says that Kenyans are keenly watching the Wafula Chebukati led commission and that it no option but to guarantee credible polls.

Ngilu now wants the IEBC to listen to the grievances being raised by NASA in regards the controversial Sh2.5 Billion Ballot Paper printing tender awarded to a Dubai based firm.

She said that it is wrong for the commission to dismiss NASA’s concerns. "IEBC should know that Kenyans are watching and will not accept any ‘monkey’ business apart from free and fair August 8 polls,” she said as quoted by the Standard.

Ngilu also asked the EIBC to engage NASA and parties in their activities in order to avoid doubts and suspicions.

She stated that the electoral commission has a constitutional mandated to work with and involve political parties and other stakeholders in election preparedness.

NASA leader Raila Odinga has raised questions on the ballot paper printing tender awarded to a Dubai based firm Al Ghurair. The opposition claims that award of tender did not follow the outlined procedures and it is allegedly a plot by Jubilee to rig the polls.

The opposition has since filed a petition in court seeking to have the tender canceled as IEBC maintains that the tender was above board and it is too late to have it cancelled.
