Adow who has been conducting a crackdown on the vehicles, said that the matatu operators have been faulting the law by carrying excess passengers.

“We have been arresting motorists with excess passengers and we are not going to relent. I want to assure drivers that stern action will be taken against them,” Adow said.

“Over loading is the biggest challenge that exists. This is unnacceptabel and we will deal ruthlessly with the offenders," he added.

He also asked the courts to give the lawbreakers hefty penalties once they are taken to court.

“We ask the Judiciary not to drag the cases of offenders in court, let them take action immediately,” he said, adding that action will be taken against people who will be found in the matatus as excess passengers.
