Nyamira's Assembly speaker Mr Joash Nyamoko declared his interest for the North Mugirango seat.

He was elected to be speaker in 2014 after the impeachment of Mr Peter King’oina by ward representatives.

The speaker has been making inroads in the constituency including the turf of current MP Mr Charles Geni.

“If the voters elect me I will focus on development and equality, we need to change the type of leadership that we currently have,” Mr Nyamoko said.

Mr Nyamoko is a Jubilee point man and the leader of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s campaign team in the county.

However, the incumbent Mr Geni who has also been endorsed by the elders, counts on his development records to maintain his seat.

“The voters will judge the two of us on development. That is where I beat all my opponents,” he said.

Homabay County Assembly speaker Samuel Ochillo on Thursday hinted that he might still run for the Kasipul parliamentary seat come August.

“I am still doing my consultations and if the residents ask me to run, my name will definitely be on the ballot list,” he said.
