Police have disbanded the community policing group in Kisii County that was blamed by residents as being behind a series of cases where suspected criminals are lynched in Keroka, Nyamira County. 

They also sounded the alarm over the rising cases of lynching suspected criminals in Keroka, Nyamira County.

This is after residents stormed the Kitutu Masaba's assistant County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo office over the rise of lynching cases in the town and its environs.

“We have disbanded the community policing group that has been accused of giving residents sleepless nights and investigations kicked off over the same matter,” said Mr Leparmorijo.

 According to him, for the last one year, over 10 people had been lynched in the town.

He cautioned, residents against taking the law into their own hands.

 Mr Leparmorijo said that investigations had already kicked off about the matter and soon culprits will be charged in court.

 Keroka OCPD Ngujiri Wambugu, asked the concerned residents to immediately report the matter to the police station.

 He said that the police had not received any official complaint from the people and were still treating the concerns raised on a Mr John Maroko alias Rambo, believed to be the head of the policing community group and the killings, as rumours.

 “We are still treating the matter as rumours and we cannot arrest him until somebody reports the matter officially and the police start their investigations,” said Mr Wambugu.
