Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang Nyong'o has expressed confidence he will capture the Kisumu gubernatorial seat in August.

Nyong'o said governor Jack Ranguma has let Kisumu residents down as the county has initiated few development projects compared to the money it has received from the Treasury.

"I actively campaigned for Ranguma in 2013," he said during a talk show at a local radio station.

"The agreement was that after election we sit down as Kisumu leaders and map out a plan that will help develop the county. But this never came to pass as he (Ranguma) mobilized youth to evict us from his office when we went for the meeting."

Prof Nyong'o is seeking to oust Ranguma from the governor's seat as he accuses him of favouritism in job allocation.

Others who have expressed interest for the position include Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga and businessman Hezron McObewa.

The four are expected to tussle it out during party primaries to select the candidate who will carry the ODM flag for the governor's seat in August.
