Following an outcry by a section of independent candidates from his Nyanza backyard, ODM leader Raila Odinga has softened his stand on the growing influence of the team.

Initially, Odinga had called for adoption of six piece voting method in his backyard, a method that could give ODM candidates an upper hand.

But speaking in Siaya on Monday, Odinga avoided meddling in local politics and instead focused on enlightening people the importance of voting in large numbers.

“Our turn out during elections has not been that good. Time has come to change that in August and drive a change in our country.

“For me to win this election, you have to come out in numbers and cast your vote. Ensure even those who are old and seek makes it to the polling station,” he said.

Earlier, Siaya Governor Amoth Rasanga had urged the ODM brigade to campaign for him adding that he risked losing the seat.

But despite Odinga’s latest move, his elder brother Oburu Oginga has been leading onslaught against a host of independent candidates.
