Only 20 percent of registered voters turned up for presidential repeat election that was widely boycotted by the opposition, Raila Odinga claims.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared winner with at least 98 percent of the 38 percent voter turnout according to electoral body, IEBC records.

At a press conference on Saturday, Odinga questioned the legitimacy of Uhuru, whose election has been yet again challenged in Supreme Court adding that most people obeyed opposition’s boycott order.

“Uhuru’s rerun turnout was not much more than 20 percent. Jubilee claims that rerun elections usually record low turnouts and that is not true.

“In Ukraine, Austria and Maldives, the turnout of repeat poll in nullified presidential elections was quite high. Uhuru has no legitimacy at all,” said Odinga, in reference to countries that has had nullified polls.

During the controversial repeat poll, 25 constituencies did not vote due to mass violence with some places recording poor turnout.

Although the opposition did not challenge the outcome, two petitions were lodged at the Supreme Court whose decision will be made on Monday.
