Kisii is planning to put up nine e-waste collection centres to help contain e-waste in the county.

In 2015, the county government partnered with Kisii University and an East African Compliance Recycling (EACR) company launched an E-waste management collection centre at the varsity.

Kisii County environment Director Alex Obwocha said that waste has been a major problem in the region.

"Waste management is a headache in Kisii County but if put to place this will help us control it, " said Obwocha.

Kenya is among the fastest growing countries into ICT compared to other countries especially in East Africa.

If Kisii County put the e-waste management method into place then it will be the first country in the world to do it.

Governor James Ongwae said "Kenya will be the first country to implement the e-waste method in Africa.  We ate dedicated and hope that it will work out for the better of the people."
