Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth and his business partners have been given a banking licence to enter the lucrative lending business.

Kenneth is one of the 25 shareholders of the Mayfair Bank, the newest bank in Kenya, which is expected to start operations immediately with their first branch at Upper Hill in Nairobi.

The bank has already recruited staff and management, according to the bank whose head offices are at Westlands said.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) announced the licensing on Friday in a statement which they said the lender would start out with three branches.

“Established by a group of local investors and headquartered in Nairobi, Mayfair Bank Limited will principally target the corporate market segment,” said the regulator.
