Police impostor Joshua Waiganjo has been released on bond by a Naivasha court.

According to the Nation, the court released him on a Sh500,000 bond with a surety of the same amount, with an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000.

Prosecutors did not object the bail application after they  had asked for two weeks to check whether the accused has other pending cases in court.

This comes after the High Court ordered a fresh trial in case where Mr Waiganjo was jailed for 5 years in October 2015 by a lower court.

The accused denied five fresh charges against him.

He asked the court to grant him bail, arguing that he was suffering from diabetes and it was not his fault that the case was set for fresh hearing.

Waiganjo was accused for wearing police uniforms, impersonating as a police officer and being in possession of government equipment among other charges.

Waiganjo declared interest to run for Njoro MP seat as an independent candidate.

The  mentioning of the case was scheduled to be on August 29 and hearing October 12.
