Police are in pursuit of a gang responsible for the death of a University student at a bar in Bungoma County.

According to reports, the incident took place on Wednesday night and the victim, Moses Mukhebi, was killed after being struck in the head with an axe.

Mukhebi and his colleague Chrispinus Wekesa are believed to have been the last customers at Mareba bar.

According to Boniface Wafula, the bar manager, the two tried to resist and in the process sustained many injuries.

"The thugs were armed with one AK-47 rifle, a pistol, an axe and a panga. They attacked the two customers whom they met at the entrance as they were leaving. They then came for me and my boss who was about to leave," Wafula said as reported by The Star.

The attackers then went on to steal Sh30,000 along with mobile devices.

"They also took a few drinks and smashed bottles on the ground," Wafula added.

He says the gang held his boss and a waitress hostage before asking them to remove their clothes and run for our lives

Police took a while to respond and the security guard was of no help once the gang arrived.

Julius Barasa, who is the South Bukusu Chief of Police assured locals that law enforcement is pursing the suspects and believes they could be responsible for similar attacks in the area.
