NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga has found empty maize flour shelves when shopping at Uchumi supermarket. The ODM leader, who was on Sunday afternoon assessing the maize shortage situation, was met with empty shelves and a notice asking buyers to pick only two pieces — but there was not even one available. The maize shortage has hit buyers everywhere in the country. This is after the government allowed the importation of subsidized maize flour.

A subsidized 2-kg maize flour retails at Sh90, but many shops ask buyers to purchase other items of at least Sh200 before being allowed to pick the rare commodity. 

The shortage has been attributed to the drought in the country.
