NASA leader Raila Odinga has issued a number of demands to President Kenyatta after the incident in Laikipia County where police shot and killed hundreds of cows.

In a press conference on Saturday, Odinga urged president Uhuru to compensate the Maa community for the loss of the cows at the prevailing market price.

The leader furthermore demanded that the government put into consideration the fact that the pastoralist community depends on good pasture for their livelihood. He, therefore, called for the government to allow them to graze their animals in ranches where there are water and grass during the dry season.

“The criminalisation of pastoralist activities is uncalled for. They equally contribute to the success of the economy and must be treated like other activities,” said Odinga.

This comes after police shot dead close to 300 cows in an exchange of fire with the pastoralists.
