The county government of Kisumu has procured 80 dairy cows and 70 dairy goats for distribution to farmers.

Governor Jack Ranguma indicated his administration recognises and appreciates the role of agricultural sector development in uplifting the socio-economic status of Kisumu residents.

"In the second phase of the county livestock development project, we have procured 80 dairy cows and 70 dairy goats for distribution to our farmers," he said, as he inspected the purchased cattle, Tuesday.

He said this would boost the project that was rolled out last year, in which women and youth groups benefited from 82 dairy cows, 70 dairy goats, rams, chicken and beehives.

"Dairy development initiative is a major component of this strategy which intends to make the county self-reliant in milk production," said Ranguma, who seeks a re-election as an independent candidate.
