Victims of gender-based violence must be supported and culprits given heavy punishment to stop the vice.

This is according to Gender CS Sicily Kariuki.

Speaking when she visited a victim of violence at Nairobi Women’s Hospital’s Gender Violence Recovery Centre, the CS castigated the perpetrators and said authorities must move in to get the offenders and bring them to book.

According to medical reports, the victim was gang-raped by thugs last Friday during the chaos that broke out in Nairobi following the return of NASA leader Raila Odinga to the country.

Her M-Pesa shop was also looted and her property taken away.

“I regret the situation that happened on Friday on Jogoo Road where the woman was gang-raped. I extend my deepest sympathy to the victim and family members,” she said.

“My ministry will work closely to monitor the situation to ensure accountability and support to her.”
