The locals were excited about Ombima's win and launched a search for the new millionaire in town for different reasons.

Here are some of the reasons:

“I am the relative of Ombima. The cousin of his great-grandfather. Please help me to reach him for I am a family member,” stated Vincent Osodo.

“Ombima was always my friend and I would like to renew our friendship, though it has been a while seeing him,” noted Hilary Obiero.

“He should always guide us on our betting so that we don’t always lose. He is a hero, and everyone likes to be associated with a hero,” noted James Ogutu.

“We would like to trace Ombima so that he at least buys us beer as the people of Kisumu. Even if he uses the Sh.200, 000 on top of that Sh1 million, he still has a lot of money,” said Kheled Opiyo.

On Monday, Ombimareceived a Sh1.2 million cheque from betting firm Betpawa. Speaking after the award ceremony, he noted that he placed several bets, adding that he did not expect to win the Sh 5 bob bet.

“I placed that bet last Sunday, with matches being played from Sunday night to Monday. I placed three bets. I deposited 50 shillings, and split that into three bets; one for 25 shillings, another for 20 shillings and another for 5 shillings,” he was quoted by Futaa.com.

"I was so sure about the first two. So for the last 5-shilling bet, I picked 22 home teams which I was certain would win. On Monday morning, I logged into my account and found that I had won,” he added.
