On Tuesday, Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chairperson Sarah Serem marked the end of her six year term in office.

When speaking Serem noted that the public wage bill has increased in such short amount of time despite the efforts of her commission.

She attributed the hiked the public wage bill from Ksh.465 billion in 2012/2013 to Ksh.627 billion in 2015/2016 to several establishments brought by devolution.

According to the chairperson, the wage bill is estimated to rise approximately Ksh.650 billion by the end 2017/2018.

Serem went on to highlight the work put into addressing the issue surrounding the public servants wages along with the wage bill sustainability processes.

“Revenues have not grown to our medium term target which is still below 7% of the GDP. We still have a long way to go. We need to look at the numbers of employees within the cabinet sector. The government institutions need to take a closer look,” said Serem as quoted by Citizen Tv.

The commission launched a Salaries and Remuneration Report for the period between  2011 and 2017.

Deputy President William Ruto was in attendance during the event.
