Pictures of how Phase 2 of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project will look like once completed can now be revealed, thanks to an artistic impression. Phase 1 of the project — between Mombasa and Nairobi — was completed in June in record time, and Kenyans have since fallen in love with the SGR train. Demand has been high and bookings have remained over 98%. More than 150,000 passengers have used the service so far.

Travelers are now able to book their return tickets, can pay via Mpesa, and can board the SGR train at Mtito Andei and Voi, where the train will be making stopsThis has encouraged the Jubilee administration to work even harder with contractors to complete the second phase of the mega project, which runs between Nairobi and Naivasha, ahead of schedule. “Phase 2 of the SGR project’s design incorporates 9 super major long bridges covering 23.96 kilometres,” said Kenya Railways, which first shared the photos, on Twitter.

To navigate through the complicated terrain between Nairobi and Naivasha, tall bridges, including one that will be 58 meters high, will be used.

Travelers using the route will enjoy the breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley, as the SGR will go through cliffs. Plans are underway to construct four tunnels along the route covering nearly 8km.

Phase 3 of the project will see the construction extend to Nakuru, before eventually reaching Kisumu.
