The government has declared that it is headed towards a win in the fight against Fall Army Worms that has invaded several maize farms across the country.

According to Livestock Principal Secretary Dr Andrew Tuimur, government's intervention had seen a drastic reduction in the fall army worms invasions.

Speaking during a tour to various maize and dairy farmers in Nandi county, Thursday, Dr Tuimur said the government had released Sh325 million that were used to purchase spraying chemicals for farmers affected with the army worms.

"We can now say that Fall army worms are no longer a threat to farmers as we have managed to contain the invasions," noted Dr Tuimur.

Several maize growing counties among them Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia were affected by the army worms.

In Nandi county, Agriculture CeC Mary Cherubet said over 7,000 hectares of maize farms were affected.

Despite the government's declaration that it has contained the invasions, there are fears that this year's maize production might be lower than the previous year following the attack by the lethal fall army worms.
