Mombasa Governor hopeful Suleiman Shahbal has urged university students to champion peace ahead of the August 8 polls.

Shahbal asked the students to take the front lead in preaching unity in the country.The Jubilee governor hopeful cautioned varsity students against being used by politicians to cause violence, noting that cases of politicians using students as objects of election violence are common during electioneering periods.“I want to urge our students in universities and colleges to be careful with the politicians they interact with and shun those who might want to lure them to violence,” said Shahbal, as quoted by The Star.He also cautioned varsity students against fueling hatred and incitement on social media.He said majority of university students operate social media accounts and blogs some of which could be used to fan hatred.Shahbal pledged to push for the interests of varsity students if elected, and promised to work with the national government to boost their welfare.He also pledged to create employment for university graduates, adding that if elected, his government will link graduates in the county to potential employers.Shahbal is seeking to unseat Governor Hassan Joho whom he has accused of failing to promote education standards in the county.
