Police in Kyuso district, Mwingi North, are probing the death of a 95-year-old man who reportedly committed suicide on Thursday 2.
The lifeless body of Zakayo Mwinza was found by his daughter Agnes Kyambi dangling from the roof of his house at Tumana village in Mitamisyi location at around 3pm, according to Kitui County AP Commander Benson Wasike.
Ms Kyambi said she was shocked to find his father’s body hanging limply when she went to collect dishes he had been served lunch in.
However, Mr Wasike said the police could not rule out the possibility of a foul play as they were baffled why a person of such advanced age could take his own life.
The body is being preserved at Kyuso hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination and in-depth investigations to establish the truth behind the old man’s death.
The incident left area residents shocked.
