Oburu Odinga’s shocking admission that ODM party rigged the 2013 primaries to hand Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo the nomination ticket should end NASA’s hypocritical lectures to IEBC on how to conduct elections. Mr Odinga, Raila’s elder brother, has said that he was part of senior ODM officials who conspired to rig the nominations to deny Elisha Odhiambo the party ticket in Gem constituency. Midiwo lost to Odhiambo in the recent primaries in Gem, and is now running to retain his seat as an independent candidate. Oburu Odinga is now pushing Midiwo, his cousin, to concede defeat and drop out of the race, just like Mr Odhiambo did in the 2013 elections. “He conceded defeat. Midiwo should follow cue this time after losing to the same candidate,” Midiwo said, as quoted by the Star. “Jakoyo should forget about recapturing his seat since he has fallen out with ODM party,” he added. Raila Odinga, the ODM party boss, has been accused, over the years, of being at the centre of helping his friends win ODM party tickets through open rigging. With this revelation, Raila has no moral authority to lecture IEBC on how to conduct elections. The electoral body does a much better job of presiding over polls than ODM. Kenyans online have now challenged Raila to use his years of experience in conducting shoddy primaries to rig himself in the August 8 general election.
