Doctors at AAR, Getrudes, Mater as well as Nairobi Hospital suspended work protesting the jailing of KMPDU officials after pay negotiations between the government and the medics hit a snag.

The labour Court on Monday jailed for one month KMPDU chairman Samuel Oroko, Ouma Oluga (Secretary General), Daisy Korir (Treasurer) and Evelyne Chege (Deputy Treasurer).

Other sent to the coolers included Allan Ochanji, Mwachonda Chibandzi and Titus Ondoro.

The officials had declined to respond to a court order that directed them to suspend the strike as pay negotiations with the government continue.

Nairobi Hospital released a statement on Wednesday suspending work in solidarity with KMPDU.

"We will not be available at our various stations for duty for 48hrs starting from 9am February 15, 2017," the statement signed by the in-patient manager, assistant coordinator and head of clinical services as quoted by the Star read in part.

The work suspension is meant to compel the government release the jailed medics.

Members of Parliament visited the jailed KMPDU officials at the Langata and Industrial Area prisons to comfort them.
