John Muimi Karia, 17, whose case is still pending at Kitui High Court on Monday started his A-level exams alongside some 600,000 other candidates countrywide, though in police custody.

Deputy OCPD Kiprop Rutto said they had prepared a room for the juvenile offender to enable him sit for the national examination.

The student is charged with the murder of Muimi Muthungu at Miambani location on December 17, 2016.

He was remanded after failing to place a bond of Sh200,000 plus a surety of similar sum granted after he denied committing the felony before Kitui presiding judge Justice Linnet Mutende on July 12, 2017.

The case is scheduled for mention on December 14, 2017.

Meanwhile, the exams kicked off without a hitch and security has beefed up in all examination centres across Kitui County, according to the County Commissioner Mr. Boaz Cherutich.
