A Shanzu Court on Monday detained four suspects facing charges of allegedly planning terror attacks during the month of Ramadhan.

State council Erick Masila told the court that the four suspects are also accused of recruiting students in madrassas in Kilifi and Voi town to join terrorist organization. The accused persons are Yayha Salim, Mohamed Anguso, Abdhallah Ramadhan and Julius Mwandenzi. The suspects were arrested in a joint operation in Kikambala, Kilifi County and Voi by anti-terrorism police officers on Sunday.Council Masila said primary investigations by police showed that the suspects might have participated in the May 31 IED attack in Lamu where four police officers and one civilian were killed.Salim, however, denied the charges before the court saying he is a madrassa teacher at Masjid Majilis in Kikambala and has never engaged in terror activities.Shanzu senior principal magistrate Diana Mochache denied the accused’s request to be released on bail saying the case was sensitive as terrorism is a complex matter.Magistrate Mochache ordered for the four accused persons to be remanded for one week to allow police to complete their investigations. The case will be heard on June 27.
