Two Kenyan universities in Tanzania are among the 19 institutions of higher learning that have been blocked from conducting student admissions this September.

According to a report by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) released on Wednesday, Kenyatta University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) were denied the right after failing the standards test.

They are now forced to comply with the Tanzanian standards before they are allowed to admit students again.

The two institutions are among 19 institutions from Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda operating in the country that have faced the axe from the regulator.

According to the Nation, TCU Executive Secretary Eleuther Mwageni revealed that an earlier audit carried out between September and October last year showed failure by the institutions to adhere to the set regulations guiding the sector.

“The audit report showed some weaknesses in these universities and for that reason there will be no admission of students in these universities in the 2017/2018 academic year,” Prof Mwagemi said.
