The officials said that the teachers should be given time to defend themselves before a determination is made.

This year, a Mokubo Secondary principal Davidson Kengere, was interdicted after he refused to honor transfer to Kerongorori secondary school.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials faulted the move saying it was quickly done without TSC holding a talk with the teacher, who is said to be visually impaired.

“You should first warn the teacher before sending him home, what if he has a mature reason as to why he denied the transfer,” Lucy Machuki.

The early January incident brings the number of principals sent home to four in a period of five months.

Last year, Emelda Onchenge, a Nyabururu Girls Principal, was sent home over issues of corporal punishment in the school.

The interdiction saw students take to the roads in protest of the interdiction and they demanded that she is taken back to school.

KUPPET and KNUT officials opposed the interdiction as they said that it was uncalled for especially at a time students were scheduled to start their examinations.

Their efforts to ask the teachers’ employer to revert the interdiction never succeeded.

Last year, TSC still sent packing two principals whose schools were affected in the wave of fires that hit secondary schools in the country.

The two heads,  Andrew Otara and Philip Orina of Itierio and Nyamache high school respectively, were held accountable and blamed for the fires.

Kisii South KNUT executive Secretary Geoffrey Mogire asked the teachers’ employer to get time and discuss issues with teachers before sending them home.

“Our teachers are suffering and for that matter, we ask that TSC re looks at its code because this trend is worrying," he said.
